Stage 1: Subject Screening Quiz Current.
A focused subject knowledge quiz to confirm your expertise level. No trick questions, it is designed to place you correctly, not catch you out.
Stage 2: Platform Orientation (Free).
Full access to our platform orientation at no cost. You learn how Anselhill works, what families expect, and how to set yourself up for success from day one.
Stage 3: External Foundation Courses (Free).
We point you toward the best free external resources from recognised institutions, so your professional foundation is solid before you ever meet a student.
Stage 4: Anselhill Core Training (Paid Entry).
This is where the real work happens. Our proprietary 5-system training framework; methodology, classroom management, parent communication, progress tracking, and professional conduct. The £30 commitment deposit applies here. It is refunded on your first completed session. This is not the cost of a job. It is the standard of entry into an academy.
Programme Fee: £30
To access the Anselhill internal certification programme, a £30 training fee applies. This covers the full proprietary course, the same programme every certified Anselhill tutor has completed.
Fee Refund Condition: Returned on First Placement Tutors who are accepted onto the platform and complete their first session with a matched family receive the £30 back as part of that first payment. You invest in the training. The placement returns it.
What You Get: Full Internal Certification You go through our complete internal training programme, methodology, systems, professional standards, and the Anselhill teaching framework. You come out the other side a certified, practice-ready educator.
For Independent Educators: Your Certification, Your Career As an Anselhill-certified independent tutor, you are not an employee. You are a credentialled professional operating on a platform that matches you with families. The £30 is your investment into that credential.
Important to note: The £30 refund applies only to tutors who complete the programme and are accepted for active placement. All tutors retain their certification and community access regardless of placement status.
Stage 5: Professional Certification & Placement.
A final teaching demo and interview. Once you clear this, you are matched with families, activated on the platform, and your deposit is returned. From here, you are an Anselhill Certified Tutor with a real pipeline and a real professional community behind you.
You have completed the Anselhill internal training programme. This is the stage where your certification is confirmed and your profile goes live for family matching. Tutors who are accepted for active placement receive their £30 training fee back as part of their first tutoring payment. You trained. You qualified. You get placed. The investment comes back.

We currently certify tutors in Maths and English across all Key Stages, with Science subjects being added this term. If your subject is not yet listed, apply anyway. We track where the demand is growing and we build the faculty around it.

How much does the certification programme cost?
The application is completely free. The only financial requirement is a £30 refundable commitment deposit, which applies when you reach Stage 4 of the certification of our internal Anselhill Core Training. This deposit is returned to you in full once you complete your first tutoring session with a matched family. It is not a fee for employment. It is a signal that you are serious about the standard — and we return it the moment you prove it.
Can I apply if I have not taught professionally before?
We value subject mastery and a genuine commitment to teaching. While formal classroom experience is not a hard requirement, you must demonstrate strong subject knowledge through the screening quiz and show a student-centred approach throughout the certification process.
What is the Tutor Certification Registration Fee?
Stage 1 (Platform Orientation) and Stage 2 (External Foundation Courses) are completely free. A fee applies to enter Stage 3 — the Anselhill Core Internal Training. This ensures that tutors who enter the internal programme are committed and serious about completing it, this fee is returned once the tutor get its first payment.
How long does the whole process take?
Most tutors complete the full 5-step journey within 10 to 14 days from passing the quiz, running concurrently with their initial orientation. The core training and external courses can be completed at your own pace, though we recommend dedicating consistent time each week to maintain momentum.
What happens after I complete the Stages?
Once your teaching demo and final interview are approved, you receive your official Anselhill Certified Tutor credential and are added to our active tutor pool. You will then be matched with students based on your subject, availability, and year group expertise. Your £30 is returned in your first payment
I didn't pass the subject quiz. Can I try again?
Yes. There is no permanent disqualification for not meeting the 70% pass mark on the first attempt. We encourage tutors to review the relevant subject material and reapply. The quiz exists to protect our students — not to exclude good teachers.
Are the external courses really free?
Yes. All external foundation courses are free and accredited through recognised institutions including The Open University (OpenLearn) and Coursera. You create your own accounts on these platforms and complete the courses there. Your downloaded certificates are then uploaded to the Anselhill platform to verify completion.
